The Fiat Ambulance: saving lives and money

The NHS is always a hot topic of conversation, which is why we were extremely excited when we heard just how beneficial the Fiat Professional Panel Van can be in saving the government millions of pounds next year.

As we delved into the Lord Carter NHS report, we learned that trusts should look to upgrade their ambulances every seven years, and that a Panel Van design should be considered over the traditional Modular Box style that we’ve previously seen on the roads.

By running this lighter weight Panel Van Ambulance, the NHS could stand to save an unbelievable £56 million on conversion costs during a five-year period, and then each year they could be set to save around £5 million in fuel costs. Additionally, the cost of ownership for this style of van is 15% cheaper over a comparable five-to-seven year period with its alternative.

Fiat Professional are already the leading supplier of Panel Van Ambulances to the UK’s 999 fleet market, with hundreds on the roads currently running on a Fiat Ducato base, which have then been adapted to meet the needs of the NHS and transporting people carefully to hospital.

"Couple the cost savings that this independent government-led report has found, with the tremendous aftersales offering that we have for our ambulance customers, and it becomes clear why more and more Ambulance Trusts are choosing the tried and tested Fiat Ducato, in Panel Van design, over the more costly options. I am delighted that we are able to make a positive impact in this way to the NHS with our life-saving and highly essential vehicles, and we look forward to working with the various Health Trusts in 2019 and beyond," said Richard Chamberlain, Country Manager, Fiat Professional UK.
