Explore the roads with Volkswagen's up!

Volkswagen Fleet Services has produced a unique book to celebrate the launch of its new award-winning city car, the up!, exploring the UK’s roads which only the up! driver can really appreciate.

Teaming up with Harry Cory Wright, one of the country’s most awarded landscape photographers, Volkswagen Fleet Services travelled 3,000 miles across the British Isles to seek out 18 of the thinnest roads, spaces that make you seriously think about hitting ‘New Route’ on the sat-nav. Whether tight city streets or narrow, winding, country lanes, these are the roads that the up! was designed for.

Every Fleet Manager who test drives the up! will be sent one of the miniature coffee table books in advance of their demonstration. They encourage the user to seek out their nearest narrow road by typing in the GPS co-ordinate on each image into the ‘Maps & More’ system on their up! model.

Volkswagen Fleet’s Communications Manager, Tracey Rossetti; said: ‘This book illustrates the beautiful scenery surrounding some of the smallest roads of Britain and is a perfect companion for the up! driver; whether venturing in cities, towns or out in the open countryside air.’

Completely new for the up!, Maps & More is a portable multi-functional infotainment system which includes a navigation system, hands-free telephone unit, vehicle information displays and a media player. In addition, apps can be used to tailor Maps & More to the driver’s individual requirements. Maps & More attaches to a high quality, sturdy bracket above the centre console, which allows it to ‘talk to’ the car’s electronics network.

Maps & More offers the most systematic form of integration of portable devices being launched on the market today, and is also highly affordable at £275 on the Take up! and Move up! (standard on High up! and black and white special editions). Designed in conjunction with Navigon – one of the world’s leading suppliers of portable navigation systems – it is not only simple and easy to use but also easy to update with a straightforward software upload.

Even before the latest addition to the Volkswagen range went on sale, the up! had been named What Car? Car of the Year for 2012 as well as Top Gear’s Small Car of the Year and CarBuyer’s Best City Car.
