The car’s dashboard controls have been tidied up, making it easier to identify and operate features such as air conditioning. Back-seat passengers benefit from heating controls that are conveniently located in the rear compartment. Entry-level models come with a seven-inch display (rising to 10.3 inches with the highest trim). As with previous editions, the NX features a remote touchpad, which has now increased in size and has a more ergonomic construction. The car’s wireless phone charger has expanded too, taking into account the vogue for smartphones that are five inches or larger. For those times when both hands are full with shopping, you simply need to waggle your foot underneath the rear of the car to open the boot lid.

The NX has been awarded a maximum five-star rating by crash test specialists Euro NCAP. Eight airbags are included as standard, as are seatbelt pre-tensioners and force-limiters – and a warning sound for those times when safety belts are unbuckled. In addition to driver aids such as Electronic Stability Control, Lexus has introduced Safety System + (SS +) as standard. This integrated safety package features automatic high-to-low-beam headlamps, which deliver optimal illumination without dazzling other motorists. Other SS + features include Lane-departure Alert, Pre-collision Warning System and Dynamic Cruise Control. The latter is a radar-based system that enables the car to maintain a constant speed. It monitors the activity of other vehicles and, where necessary, adjusts speed accordingly.

The distinctive Lexus NX has received a design makeover, which was revealed at September’s 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. This eye-catching compact crossover was a big success in the UK for the Japanese marque during 2016. Why change a winning formula, then? Well, Lexus has opted to make refinements rather than completely reinvent this popular SUV. These changes make the best of the car’s shape, which remains fetchingly angular. A new type of suspension delivers a smoother, more comfortable ride. There are improvements to the vehicle’s technological features too, making them easier to use. The NX was already a very safe car and is now even more so, regardless of which variant you choose. As before, the vehicle is available in petrol-driven or hybrid form, allowing you to select the one that best suits your needs.
Desirable Good Looks
The latest NX iteration boasts a new radiator grille that maintains the bold spindle design of before but includes a more conspicuous mesh design. The front bumper has undergone a subtle redesign, and now has a more fine-drawn look. The vehicle’s headlamps have also experienced revisions, and are more in line with those found on Lexus’ top-of-the-range LC 500. The rear fascia has been refashioned too, and features noticeably extended taillights. The car is also wider, which, in tandem with a lower bumper, helps to provide the car with its beefier, more assertive look.
Fine-Tuned Performance
Lexus has calibrated the NX’s chassis, resulting in handling improvements, while an shock absorber delivers a more refined ride. The vehicle now features Adaptive Variable Suspension, which constantly analyses each wheel and administers damping force according to driving conditions, and the driver’s own preferences.
It’s the NX300h hybrid iteration that is likely to continue as the most popular choice for motorists. This model features a 2.5-litre 195bhp petrol-electric engine that produces 206Nm of torque and 0-60 in a little over nine seconds. It also manages as much as just over 56mpg and a 116g/km CO2 emission figure.
