Mazda MX-5 makes debut at 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed

The next-generation version of the world's best-selling two-seater sports car made its debut at the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed and Moving Motor Show. The all-new Mazda MX-5 is one of the most hotly anticipated releases of the year and is priced from £18,495 to £23,295 on-the-road (OTR).

Mazda describes the all-new Mazda MX-5 as “pure roadster" as it boasts a superior power to weight ratio, rear-wheel drive, a perfect 50:50 weight distribution and enhanced comfort and technology in the cabin. For power there is a choice of two SKYACTIV-G petrol engines, while a generous standard equipment list and uprated safety technology only increase the car's appeal.

Nine models are offered across five trim levels to help cement the all-new Mazda MX-5 as a truly affordable sports car. The new arrival carries on the driver-focused ethos that makes the model a best-seller and was developed in line with the concept of “innovate in order to preserve". This philosophy preserves the sports car's agile and enjoyable driving dynamic while also making sure new standards of safety and efficiency are met.

This is the lightest MX-5 since the original model first burst onto the scene and is shorter, lower and wider than the outgoing model while also having a lower centre of gravity. Its compact build coupled with Mazda's KODO: Soul of Motion design language creates a look that reflects the car's focus on ultimate driving pleasure in a stunning way.

The all-new Mazda MX-5 features award-winning SKYACTIV Technology which helps its ultra-efficient petrol engines to set new standards for performance and economy. The 1.5-litre 131ps engine is joined by a 160ps 2.0-litre unit and both couple with a six-speed manual transmission. A lightweight fabric roof, alloy wheels and LED headlights also feature across the range. There are seven paint options to choose from too including Crystal White pearlescent and Soul Red metallic.

The all-new Mazda MX-5 turned plenty of heads at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and buyers who pre-ordered the car online at Mazda.co.uk were entered into a draw to win a test drive at the event. The chosen motorists also won VIP tickets to the Festival of Speed at Mazda's trackside enclosure.

Jeremy Thomson, Mazda Motors UK managing director commented. “The MX-5 is Mazda's brand icon and it embodies all that is great about our products. Its fun to drive character has strengthened the bond between Mazda and its customers for 25 years so there's no better place to showcase the all-new MX-5 than in front the enthusiastic crowd at the Goodwood Festival of Speed."
