The model is the most
awaited SUV that will have its world premiere in September. The design makes a
strong statement with an impressive combination of powerful design and generous
space. The name refers to the Kodiak bear that lives on an island near Alaska,
which conveys strengths similar to the SUV: size, strength and family spirit.
The versatile design features striking, clean and precise lines; the highly
recessed shoulder line highlights the large
SUV’s robust character. The crystalline framework pays homage to Czech crystal
glass art, which is steeped in tradition.
The exterior features a sporty,
robust SUV character, with LED rear lights sculpted in the brand’s classic
C-shape. The wide, three-dimensional radiator grille has a striking look, with
its own identity. The side and rear views are also crisp: the doors are
athletically shaped and the tailgate is expressively sculpted. The long
wheelbase and short overhangs point to the roomy interior. The SUV will come
with two extra seats in the third row as an optional extra. You can rest assure
that the KODIAQ is an unmistakable presence on the road.
The modern design of the exterior continues in the interior. Even here, form and functionality simultaneously stand together: the interior comes across as protective and robust, but also impresses with a refined character. All the features radiate clarity and tranquillity. Strong vertical elements, like the four large air vents, are characteristic of the interior. With a capacity of 720 to 2,065 litres (with the rear seats folded down), the five-seater model offers the largest boot within its option. If the optional folding front passenger seat is chosen, the car can transport items up to 2.90m long. The large display splits the instrument panel into two equal sections for the driver and passenger.
When it comes to technology, the model features the newest driver assistance systems that contribute to the safety and comfort. Area View, using surround-view camera with wide-angle lenses at the front and the rear as well as in the wing mirrors, displays various views of the car’s immediate surroundings on the in-car monitor. These include a virtual top-down view and 180-degree pictures from the areas to the front and rear. Tow Assist is also new to the range: if the KODIAQ is pulling a trailer, the system takes over steering when reversing slowly. Additionally, while reversing, the new Manoeuvre Assist will brake as soon as an obstacle is detected behind the vehicle.
The ŠKODA Connect mobile online services are another innovation. They divided into two categories: the Infotainment Online services ensure more information and navigation in real time, and the Care Connect services which provide remote access as well as assistance.
The model will be showcased on 1st September 2016 in Berlin.
