In the compact car segment, the new Toyota Aygo is a quirky, fresh and enthusiastic option. There are three-door and five-door versions, with five equipment levels that express the model's versatility.
Every Aygo has a distinct personality. Each trim level has a slightly different 'x' across the front face, door handles and mirror caps, and unique body accents. All but the entry level 'x' have heated door mirrors, to make setting off in cold weather much quicker, and an integrated rear spoiler.
The cabin design is again tailored by equipment grade, altering the look of the dashboard, air-vent surrounds, inner door handles, centre console and gearstick. Drivers who need to take more challenging journeys can opt for the OUTshield accessory pack, which adds rear parking sensors, a boot liner, floor mats and aluminium scuff plates.
Toyota’s latest technology is out in force in the hatchback, starting with the seven-inch colour x-touchscreen that comes with the highest trim levels. It displays infotainment and offers integrated Bluetooth®, MP3 and iPod® compatibility. All models feature a trip computer, USB port for mobile devices and a heated rear screen.
With new features and looks comes a new standard for safety. The Aygo is kitted out with Vehicle Stability Control and ABS to make driving simpler and, in the unlikely event of an accident, you’re supported by six SRS airbags and force-limiting seatbelts.
A 1.0-litre petrol engine generates the Aygo's unlimited energy and eagerness. Mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, it takes the car from 0-60mph in under 15 seconds – and electric power steering keeps handling simple. Fuel economy peaks at an impressive 68.9mpg, and a low of 99g/km in CO2 emissions confirms the hatchback's efficiency.
