A phenomenally-popular car since 1974, successive versions of the Volkswagen Golf continue to steal a march on the marque’s competitors. The sixth-generation edition of the small family car has won plaudits from every quarter, particularly for its astounding fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

Due to the advanced technology of the new engine, the BlueMotion version of the Volkswagen Golf delivers a combined fuel consumption of 74.3mpg and carbon emissions of just 99g/km – low enough to avoid all road tax. Performance of the Golf is versatile thanks to its Adaptive Chassis Control (available on Match and GT models). Depending on your preference, you can select Normal, Sport or Comfort mode, with the chassis adapting to give a sportier or more relaxing experience. This sophisticated system adds to the stability and handling provided by the four-link rear suspension, which significantly reduces sideways roll even on the sharpest of bends.
