The unveiling of the all new Volvo S60

The all new Volvo s60 was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show claiming to deliver the "most dynamic ride ever seen on a Volvo". Intended to rival the likes of the BMW 3-Series this all new Volvo S60 has a lot to live up to.

The British designer behind the new S60, Peter Horbury, said: 'This is a completely fresh design and shows what Volvo is capable of when the brakes are taken off the engineers and designers.'

Advanced Pedestrian Detection System

The new model features an advanced pedestrian detection system, which spots a pedestrian in the road ahead - confirmed by both radar and camera - the driver receives an audible and visual warning. If he fails to brake in time, an automatic braking system takes over.

Also featuring on the new S60 is advanced braking functions. The ready Alert Brakes system predicts when emergency braking is needed and primes the system in readiness for action. The S60 also gets an improved Advanced Stability Control system.

The Volvo S60 is to be available in two diesel options and one petrol engine option, including an uprated high-performance 3.0-litre T6 petrol version producing 304bhp, a 2.4-litre 205bhp D5 and a 2.0-litre 163bhp D3. A low-emissions DRIVe version powered by a 1.6-litre diesel engine producing 115g/km of CO2 and offering an EU Combined fuel consumption figure of up to 65.7mpg, will be offered from 2011.
