Volvo XC90 wins What Car? Safety Award

The Volvo XC90 won What Car? Safety Award at the ceremony held in London. To claim the award, the XC90 had to compete with models such as Audi, BMW, Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz, and was honoured for its world-first safety features, such as Run-off Road Protection, which automatically tightens the seatbelts and to help prevent spinal injuries, it has energy-absorbing front seats.

Another one of the advanced technology is the automatic emergency braking at a junction, which applies the brakes to stop or help prevent a collision if the driver accidentally turn into the path of an oncoming vehicle. Other standard advanced technologies include City Safety (helps avoid or mitigate accidents with pedestrians, cyclists or other vehicles day and night), driver alert and lane-departure warning systems. The IntelliSafe safety features are designed to keep the driver and his family safe from harm.

Other safety features include a passenger compartment constructed from high-strength steel. Known as boron steel, it’s the strongest steel in use in the auto industry. On top of this, the Swedish SUV gets the seven airbags, as standard, which provide protection to all three rows of seats and ESP.
