The Hyundai BAYON compact crossover makes its debut

The all-new Hyundai BAYON celebrated its digital world premiere on 2nd March, in a global launch event that showcased works of art from across Europe inspired by the model’s distinctive design details.

This entry-level model joins Hyundai’s growing SUV ranks, including the KONA, TUCSON, NEXO and SANTA FE. It’s been designed especially for Europe – its name was inspired by the beautiful city of Bayonne in the south-west of France. It offers head-turning styling, advanced tech, impressive boot space and mild-hybrid power.

With this exciting compact crossover expected to arrive later this year, we take a closer look!

Sensuous Sportiness

This new entry point into Hyundai’s expanding SUV range incorporates the brand’s ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design identity – a direction that brings an emotional touch to Hyundai vehicles. This small crossover bears resemblance to the new i20 supermini – Hyundai says its compact dimensions meet the demands of navigating through European cities, making it a good option for tech-savvy urban drivers.

The all-new BAYON has a unique exterior design for a distinctive look on the road. The prominent creases along the body sides are hallmarks of its maker’s new ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design language. There’s a big focus on lighting architecture, with slim, high-mounted LED daytime-running lights above the larger, angled main units and two arrow-shaped brake lights at the rear. An air intake band stretches across the entire front of the vehicle and a broad front grille create a solid stance. There’s also a 411-litre boot, making it perfect for city drivers who want to hit the open road at the weekend!

Performance matters

The BAYON comes with 48-volt mild-hybrid tech as standard, helping to improve fuel efficiency and emissions as you travel. What’s more, it’s the first model outside Hyundai’s N range to offer rev matching, which engages as part of the Sport mode.

A work of art

In this world of digital premieres, Hyundai opted to unveil the BAYON in a creative way. As part of the digital world premiere, nine artists from all over Europe were asked to create a unique piece of art inspired by the characteristic design elements of the car, bringing a new perspective and emphasising BAYON’s unique look.
