Tyres are a vital, yet often overlooked contributing factor in a car's overall performance and longevity. A set of good quality tyres will ensure that your vehicle handles better and conserves more fuel. The added grip of good tyres also means that safety is improved.
Checking the health of a set
of tyres, therefore, is something that any motorist should do regularly. Tread
depth and interior pressure should both be in line with legal requirements, and
any other imperfections should be inspected to make sure that the safety of the
tyre is not compromised.
If you feel that your tyres
may not meet legal safety requirements, you can book an inspection with Johnsons
Cars. Our team will be able to tell you whether your vehicle needs a new set of
tyres, and will be able to carry out a replacement at your convenience. We
offer a wide range of tyres for sale, covering budget and premium brands, so
you are sure to find the right match for your car.

Please review our frequently asked questions related to tyres below – if your query isn’t answered, don’t hesitate to contact us.
Tyre pressure varies depending on your vehicle, but it’s crucial to keep it within the recommended range found in your vehicle’s manual or on the driver’s side door frame. Maintaining proper tyre pressure improves fuel efficiency, handling and tyre lifespan.
On average, tyres last between 20,000 and 30,000 miles, but this depends on driving conditions and tyre maintenance. Regular checks on tread depth, pressure and overall wear are essential for prolonging tyre life.
Run-flat tyres are designed to continue functioning after a puncture, allowing you to drive for a limited distance at a reduced speed to reach a repair facility. They provide additional safety and convenience in emergency situations.
Tyres become illegal when their tread depth falls below 1.6 mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre. Other factors like bulges, cuts or excessive wear can also make them unsafe and unlawful to use on the road.
