If you’re a big fan of cycling then get ready for Honda’s new Civic Tourer ‘Active Life Concept’ which has a new bicycle transport system. The technology features an ingenious ‘In-car Bicycle Rack’, which helps the driver transport two full-size bicycles within the load bay, and enhances security, safety and fuel efficiency compared to a roof- or a rear-mounted rack.
The system takes advantage of the model’s interior space and unique centre fuel tank layout. Drivers can find an aluminium rail mounted in the deep boot as well. The T-bar is formed out of the rail and sliding brackets where the bicycle’s front fork slots onto. On the folded-down back seat can be found the rear wheel, while the tall uprights at each edge of the rail have a slot to secure the front wheel hub. The bicycle from is fasten thanks to the fixing belt and integrated load bay lashing rings.
The technology is so flexible that a driver and a passenger can sit up front with two full-size bicycles securely mounted behind them or just 40 per cent of the rear bench seat can be folded down, mounting one bicycle in the load bay, and allowing space in the back seats for an extra passenger, plus luggage.
If you have a dynamic lifestyle and you desire a flexible vehicle, now you can integrate the In-Car Bicycle Rack with the existing Honda accessories (boot lip protector, boot side net and roof cross bars).
The innovative technology will be available at Johnsons Honda dealers from October 2016.
