The new Volkswagen Golf has updated its design, but maintains the same
unique style features that ensure the car could never be mistaken for
any other. Aerodynamic, athletic and elegant, the Golf is the ideal
vehicle for stylish and practical everyday road use. The shape and
positioning of the windows has been adjusted for added visibility, and
the integrated rear lights create harmony with the lines of the bodywork
for a powerful road presence.
Style and substance
Seven petrol engines, ranging between 1.2-litre and 2.0-litre models, and five diesel engines of 1.6-litre or 2.0-litre varieties await the Golf motorist. They all arrive in four-cylinder models, and range from five-speed to seven-speed manual or automatic gearboxes. The top speed offered by the range is 155mph, the combined fuel consumption is an impressive 88.3mpg, and the CO2 levels are as low as 85g/km. Seven levels of trim are on offer for the Golf: the S, the Bluemotion, the Match, the GT, the GTD, the GTI and the high-performance Golf R model.

Standard features of the line include the Composition Media system, which is controlled through the use of a 5.8-inch colour touch-screen. This gives users a DAB digital radio receiver, Bluetooth® telephone functionality, and a multifunction computer. Manual air conditioning is installed as standard, while higher trim levels include 2Zone electric air conditioning.
Emergency city braking
This system takes intelligent control of your driving speed by automatically braking if the sensor detects the risk of a collision.
These sensors assist parking manoeuvres by emitting both audible and visual signals, alerting the driver to any obstacles in the way.
Driver alert system
If several erratic steering movements happen one after the other, the Driver Alert system recommends taking a break via visual and acoustic signals to the driver and even intervenes in critical driving situations.
The driver and passengers are protected by Volkswagen's comprehensive airbag system, surrounding the cabin and ready for any theoretical possibility. The rear-view camera and front and rear parking sensors ensure that the vehicle can be manoeuvred with top levels of precision, and the Driver Alert System adjusts and monitors driving behaviours to protect against the effects of driver fatigue. Electronic Stability Control (ESC) helps maintain vehicle control, as does the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System.
