Motorists on the hunt for a new, ultra-frugal compact hatchback will be pleased to read that the Polo BlueMotion is being updated for 2015. A petrol powertrain joins the family for the first time, and deliveries are expected to arrive early 2015.
Buyers can now choose a 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI engine with their Polo BlueMotion. The small and lightweight unit claims to return 68.9mpg and emits just 94g/km of CO2, exempting you from Vehicle Excise Duty. With 94bhp produced there’s plenty of pull when accelerating through the five manual gears too, and 0-60mph acceleration is 10.5 seconds. The new engine joins a 1.4-litre three-cylinder TDI which replaces the previous 1.2-litre diesel. This is more frugal than the petrol with returns of up to 91.9mpg.

BlueMotion-specific styling separates the economy-focused Polo examples from the rest of the range. The differences include reshaped front and rear bumpers plus a revised grille and rear spoiler - added to boost the model’s aerodynamics. The vehicle also sits on stylish 15-inch alloy wheels and includes sporty front fog lights.
Bundles of kit
All BlueMotion models are based on the entry-level Polo S trim grade, so plenty of kit is fitted as standard. The carmaker’s Composition Media System brings a 6.5-inch colour touchscreen to the cockpit to join Bluetooth® connectivity, a DAB digital tuner and Multi-device Interface (MDI). As regards added gadgets, there’s also the option for satellite navigation, a MirrorLink smartphone integration system and voice control function. With the addition of petrol power to the BlueMotion Polo, Volkswagen hopes to tempt buyers at a time when more and more are making clean engines and economical returns the priority. Order books for the vehicle are open now, and you can put your name down by contacting Johnsons Volkswagen directly.
