New-look Golf The new Golf benefits from a number of design tweaks, including a front fascia that can be specified with LED headlights and a choice of bumper-positioned air intakes. Available in three or five-door body styles, the vehicle now features LED tail lights as standard, while top-end trim levels come with eye-catching animated indicator lights. The car’s interior can be enhanced with new seat cover patterns, and the vehicle’s dashboard, centre console and door panels are fashioned using new materials.

Technology & Intelligent Safety Features All new Golf models feature a colour screen that ranges from 6.5 inches to 9.2 inches, dependant on grade. This is located at the centre of the vehicle’s dashboard, and offers up to twice the resolution of current displays (from 800 x 480 pixels to as much as 1,280 x 640 pixels). A range of new safety elements include Traffic Jam Assist, a semi-autonomous feature that offers the best of Lane Assist and Automatic Distance Control to alleviate the pressures of congested traffic. As well as detecting approaching vehicles, City Emergency Braking can now perceive road-crossing pedestrians. Trailer Assist also features, ensuring that reversing with something attached is much simpler and safer.
Performance A 1.5-litre turbo charged 148bhp petrol unit has been introduced to the Golf’s range of engine options. It features Active Cylinder Management, autonomous technology that saves fuel by closing down cylinders when cruising. A 129bhp BlueMotion variant of this engine is expected in the near future. Full details have yet to be announced, but this unit will suit drivers who strive for as green a driving experience as possible. Motorists who crave optimal performance levels can select the GTI variant, a hot hatch that now produces 227bhp. Meanwhile a Performance edition adds a further 14bhp. Expect to see the introduction of seven-speed dual-clutch transmission too.
Infotainment The car’s infotainment system has received a software upgrade, providing a customisable homepage and the facility to easily swipe through, for example, a cache of album sleeves. Active Info Display, which provides a range of useful data, such as telephone contacts, is clearly visible through the top of the car’s steering wheel. Discover Navigation (and Discover Navigation Pro) provides the latest traffic news, fuel prices and much more. Dependant on the trim level selected, audio entertainment includes an AM/FM radio, DAB radio and even a 40GB hard drive that enables you to enjoy all your favourite media on the go.
Connectivity With features such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, the new Golf’s smartphone connectivity provides a more integrated travelling experience. Compatible phones and tablets can even be used to operate the car’s infotainment system. Also introduced to the Golf is Voice Control, which comes with Discover Pro, and a number of functions that can be operated using intuitive gesture control. Your compatible smartphone can be wirelessly charged too.
Park Assist
The new Golf comes with an optional Park Assist system which does all of the hard work for you. Struggling to fit in the tightest of spaces will become a thing of the past. To operate this all you have to do is press the Park Assist the button and work the pedals.
Blind Spot Sensor
Thanks to the Blind Spot Sensor you will now be more aware of your surroundings and will warn you when vehicles are in your blind spot. It also monitors the read and side of your car when reversing for added safety.
