Introducing the 2021 European Car of the Year – the Toyota Yaris!

This year’s European Car of the Year is none other than the class-leading Toyota Yaris – 21 years after the first-generation model received the award in 2000.

Known for its impeccable trio of low emissions, driveability and affordability, it was the Yaris’ attractive design and impressive safety features that caught the attention of the jury of 59 automotive specialists.

It’s been a fantastic year for the Yaris, with the fourth-generation model becoming the best-selling car in Europe for the first time. The model has been praised many times for its impressive hybrid powertrain, which offers a fuel economy of up to 68.8mpg. And while it hasn’t always won the honour, the Yaris has often been recognised by the Car of the Year jury – every generation of the model has appeared on the award’s shortlist.

It wasn’t just the Yaris that made the jury sit up and take notice, but also its passionate sibling – the GR Yaris. This impressive model has successfully reignited the passion for hot hatch vehicles across Europe, with its distinctive design and evocative driving performance.

Matt Harrison, Executive Vice President of Toyota Motor Europe, commented: “This is a great honour for Toyota, and I’d like to thank the jury for their consideration and recognition. I’d also like to take this opportunity to recognise the passion of our development teams in Europe and Japan. This is the best-ever Yaris, and just as Akio Toyoda intended, it is already putting a smile on the face of our customers.”
