Fiat's Abarth 595 Biposto Makes its Ofiical On-Road Debut

The Gumball 3000 rally takes place during June 2014, starting in Miami and making an Atlantic crossing to visit cities such as Edinburgh and Paris before coming to a close in Ibiza. The Abarth 595 Biposto has been chosen as the official car of the non-competitive rally, and is the first time an official car has been appointed for the event.

The 120 supercars which are participating will cover over 3,000 miles in under ten days. This is the sixteenth time the rally has taken place, and Abarth represents the sole official automotive partner of the event. Having previously made its debut at the 84th Geneva International Motor Show, the 595 Biposto has been described as "the most Abarth of all Abarths" and will be driven by the CEO and founder of the rally itself, Maximillion Cooper. The 595 Biposto will join the line-up from Edinburgh, and has been chosen as a representative 'iconic image' of the 2014 rally.

During the rally, the 595 Biposto will be given the chance to show off the potential of its 1.4 T-Jet engine, which provides 190bhp and speeds of up to 140mph. It is also the first time that a street-legal vehicle in the Biposto's category has come fitted with a gearbox featuring dog rings with controls and disc and clutch self-locking differential. This has been directly designed from racing vehicles, allowing the Biposto to make upward gear changes without use of the clutch.

Abarth is set to play a leading role in every city that the rally visits; the company aims to make the event exciting and memorable for the thousands of people who will bear witness to the 2014 Gumball 3000.
