It’s rare that a sports car stands out for its reliability, but the Mazda MX-5 has done just that! The sporty roadster has been named as the nation’s most reliable new car aged between 0-3 years by consumer watchdog, Which?.
After 30 years and more than a million units sold, you’d be
forgiven for thinking that this cool convertible was attracting drivers with
its dramatic looks and low-slung drive…but perhaps it’s more than that!
In an exclusive reveal to This is Money, Which? announced that 47,000 drivers told Which? about the reliability of 55,000 cars in 2020, with the MX-5 beating every other mainstream and premium motor. Just 3% of all MX-5 drivers said they'd experienced a fault during the 12 months before responding to the survey.
The consumer group commented on the reveal, saying:
“Contrary to what you might expect, you don’t need a bulky, solid-looking car to get a dependable model, the MX-5 received our full five-star reliability rating. An incredible 97% of owners reported no faults whatsoever in the year running up to our survey. And for those that did, none of the faults were serious. Breakdowns weren’t an issue either.”
These glowing reviews might be part of the reason that the MX-5 is the world’s best-selling roadster of all time. Mazda Motors UK Managing Director, Jeremy Thomson said:

If they are unable to make you an offer of finance, or the vehicle is not one that we would normally place with them we will introduce you to other lenders on our panel. The lender we introduce you to and available rates will depend upon a number of factors including: the vehicle, your personal circumstances and the likelihood of a lender to accept an application based on information provided.
Lenders typically pay a commission to us for introducing you to them, calculated by reference to the vehicle model or amount you borrow. Different lenders may pay different commissions for such introductions; some lenders may also provide preferential rates to us for the funding of our vehicle stock and also provide financial support for our training and marketing. But any such amounts they and other lenders pay us will not affect the amounts you pay under your finance agreement, all of which are set by the lender concerned. If you would like to know the amount of any remuneration we have received from the finance provider, please ask us.
