At Johnsons Volvo, we were delighted to see the Swedish automaker introduce their first-ever fully electric car: the XC40 Recharge.
This electrifying SUV is the first of a family of fully electric Volvos, branded ‘Recharge’, and is based on the best-selling XC40, which has previously won accolades such as the What Car? Family SUV of the Year 2019 and European Car of the Year 2018.
The XC40 Recharge offers a powerful yet sustainable driving experience, propelling you from 0 to 62mph in just 4.9 seconds, and laying 408hp at your feet. With zero emissions produced, the large 78 kWh battery boasts a range of over 249 miles (WLTP test cycle) and can fast-charge from 10 to 80% in around 40 minutes.
It is also Volvo’s first vehicle to feature a brand-new infotainment system powered by Google’s Android operating system. The state-of-the-art system offers full integration of Android Automotive OS, with real-time updates to Google Maps, Google Assistant and automotive apps – this integration is an important step in reducing driver distraction.
“We have said this several times before: for Volvo Cars, the future is electric”. – Håkan Samuelsson, Volvo Chief Executive.
The XC40 Recharge is the first release under Volvo’s new Recharge branding – the overarching name for vehicles with a fully electric and plug-in hybrid powertrain. Over the next five years, the marque will launch a fully electric car every year, as they strive to make all-electric cars 50% of their global sales by 2025, with the rest hybrids. They will also triple their production capacity for electrified cars.
Volvo are known for their commitment to safety, and say their vow to become climate-neutral by 2040 will help their cars not only protect people, but their future too.
Not only that – Volvo is offering to pay for a year’s worth of electricity for customers who buy one of their plug-in hybrid vehicles between now and next June, to further encourage electric driving.
