At this year’s annual What Car? Car of the Year Awards, Hyundai gained four awards for different models across their range. Three of these awards also linked to their market-leading alternative fuel technologies that showcase just how innovative this manufacturer has become.
The most prestigious accolade that they took home on the night was the Technology award, which they won for their work in electrification and the development of hydrogen fuel cell technology. It’s clear to see why this manufacturer took home the crown as its model range includes petrol, diesel, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, fully electric and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles.
Further to their work with electric cars, the IONIQ was named the Hybrid Car of the Year for the second year running as it presented the most polished all-round package of all its competitors. It combines an efficient 1.6-litre petrol engine and electric motor, making this model capable of a 62.4mpg (WLTP) and CO2 emissions of 84g/km. The IONIQ Plug-in Hybrid Premium won the award for Best Plug-in Hybrid for less than £30,000, truly showcasing how impressive all variations of this model are.
At the other end of the spectrum, the game-changing Hyundai i30N took home the award for Best Hot Hatch for £22,000 – £27,000 by providing a rewarding drive and allowing owners to enjoy an extremely generous standard equipment list.
