Here at Johnsons, we’re huge fans of the Hyundai KONA, in all its incarnations – from the electrified versions to the exhilarating new KONA N…and
everything in between! We were therefore delighted to see it add
another award to its already bursting trophy cabinet, with the model
being voted as the best car to own in the Auto Express Driver Power
Awards 2021.
Now approaching its third decade, the Driver Power Survey asks thousands of drivers across the country to rate their vehicles in a number of categories, from reliability and technology to MPG and running costs. The KONA was also named as the Best Small SUV, with KONA Electric winning Best Electric Car – in fact, it’s the only car to achieve double honours on its way to overall victory!
To hit the top spot in the survey, the KONA had to perform strongly in each of the voted categories, placing top for Ride & Handling and coming runner-up in the Reliability & Build Quality, Infotainment, Connectivity & Electronics, and Engine & Gearbox categories.
Auto Express Editor-in-Chief Steve Fowler commented:
“The Hyundai KONA has been voted our Driver Power Car of the Year thanks to its comprehensive roster of talents, with owners telling us they love almost everything about this small SUV, from the tidy handling, fantastic infotainment and low running costs, to the strong reliability, sleek looks and strong drivetrains. What’s more, when we separate out the KONA Electric we find that this is the top-rated EV in our survey, getting the better of both the Nissan LEAF and Tesla Model 3. Strong stuff indeed.”
Other Hyundai models made a big impression in the survey, too, with the Hyundai i10 finishing runner-up in the list of City Cars and the IONIQ coming runner-up in the Compact Family Cars class –including an overall win in the MPG & Running Costs category.

We are a credit broker and not a lender. We can introduce you to a limited number of lenders and their finance products, we act as their agent for this introduction. We do not charge you a fee for our services. we will typically receive commission from whichever lender we introduce you to (either a fixed fee or a fixed percentage of the amount you borrow).
Unless we consider it to be inappropriate given your personal circumstances, for certain vehicles e.g. New, our approach is to introduce you to the lender who are usually able to offer the best available package for you, taking into account interest rates, residual valuations (where applicable) and other contributions. If they are unable to make you an offer of finance, or the vehicle is not one that we would normally place with them we will introduce you to other lenders on our panel. The lender we introduce you to and available rates will depend upon a number of factors including: the vehicle, your personal circumstances and the likelihood of a lender to accept an application based on information provided.
Lenders typically pay a commission to us for introducing you to them, calculated by reference to the vehicle model or amount you borrow. Different lenders may pay different commissions for such introductions; some lenders may also provide preferential rates to us for the funding of our vehicle stock and also provide financial support for our training and marketing. But any such amounts they and other lenders pay us will not affect the amounts you pay under your finance agreement, all of which are set by the lender concerned. If you would like to know the amount of any remuneration we have received from the finance provider, please ask us.
