The KONA Electric impresses at What Car? Real Range test

The Hyundai KONA Electric took charge at the recent What Car? Real Range tests for electric cars, registering the longest ‘real world’ driving range of any car tested.

The zero-emissions SUV, which is equipped with a 64kWh battery pack, was put through its paces by the popular motoring magazine at the Millbrook Proving Ground test track, in mixed driving conditions. It was up against 13 other zero-emission cars, and topped the table with a ‘real world’ range of 259 miles on a single charge – the equivalent of driving from London to Snowdonia, at a cost of just 3.3 pence per mile. This latest achievement comes just a few months after KONA Electric was crowned ‘Affordable Electric Car of the Year 2018’ by Auto Express magazine.

Meanwhile, the IONIQ Electric scored a second success for Hyundai in the tests, achieving the highest energy efficiency and lowest cost-per-mile rating of any car tested. It covered 3.9 miles per kWh – 11% further per unit of energy than any other model from a different brand.

Here at Johnsons Hyundai, we believe that these impressive ‘real world’ test results will help lay to rest any concerns people have about the viability of electric vehicles, by proving they can cover a lot of ground at very little cost. However, the Hyundai KONA Electric is much more than an advocate of environmentally friendly motoring – this dynamic SUV combines a commanding stature, rugged performance and state-of-the-art technology, meaning it will make a statement wherever you take it.

Following the What Car? Real Range results, Tony Whitehorn, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor UK, commented: “The results…are a terrific endorsement of our zero-emissions models. Achieving not only the highest ‘real-world’ driving range, but also the best efficiency and lowest cost-per-mile figure of any brand is testament to our commitment to reducing the environmental impact of our vehicles. These cars are a compelling proposition for both fleet and retail customers, and we’re confident that KONA Electric and IONIQ Electric will continue to attract praise from media and motorists alike.”
