Ford Focus five-star NCAP rating

The all-new Ford Focus receives five-star NCAP rating

At Johnsons Ford, we love the all-new Focus, and its latest achievement has made us love it even more. We are very pleased to see that this stylish model has been awarded the maximum five-star rating in the recent round of Euro NCAP testing.

Under the new, more demanding testing protocols, the Ford Focus is one of the first models to be awarded the highest rating. It gained great scores for both adult and child occupant protection and the maximum rating in tests designed to replicate car-to-car side impacts.

These results are thanks to Ford’s redesigned C2 architecture, which supports a 40% increase in front crash load capacity, the body structure comprises 33% ultra-high strength, and press-hardened boron steels ensure side-on impacts are minimised.

Out of new technology included in this model, the Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection has been commended by Euro NCAP as it will help to reduce impacts in urban areas. This system can detect people in or even near the road ahead that may cross your vehicle’s path.

Some of the other driver assistance features that have been included in the most advanced Fords are: adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go, Speed Sign Recognition and Lane-Centring for effortlessly negotiating city traffic, and adaptive front lighting with new camera-based predictive curve lighting. Evasive steering assist uses a radar and camera to detect slower-moving and stationary vehicles ahead to enable drivers manoeuvre around a vehicle if a collision is imminent.

Post-Collision Braking technology helps to reduce the consequences of a potential secondary impact by automatically applying moderate brake pressure when an initial event is detected. This therefore has the potential to lessen the injuries to the occupants and also further damage to the vehicle.

You can also utilise Ford’s first heads-up display to focus your attention on the road ahead, and the rear wide-view camera offers a 180-degree view to further improve visibility when reversing into a parking space or even onto your driveway.

Matthew Avery, Thatcham’s Director of Research, stated: “It’s refreshing that Ford has upped its safety game for a likely top-ten seller like the Focus.”
