Practical & Roomy FIND OUT MORE

Practical and Roomy

The Fabia is a great family choice. For one thing, its five-door body ensures that access is easy for all passengers. There’s room inside for five, and the driver is provided with a height-adjustable seat and tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, which make it simple to establish an ideal driving position. Each compartment offers plenty of passenger space too, even for rear-row travellers. It’s certainly easy to accommodate five adults inside the Fabia – and a young family will find the car to be incredibly spacious. The car’s class-competitive 330-litre boot is easy to access, thanks to a wide-opening tailgate and low load sill. Whenever you need more luggage capacity, simply flip the Fabia’s 60/40 split-folding rear seats, and you’ll have 1,150 litres of load space at your disposal.

Useful Tech FIND OUT MORE

Useful Tech on Board

A five-inch touchscreen is included as standard, which makes it easy to operate the Fabia’s four-speaker sound system. Included is DAB radio, which provides a wide range of stations in crystal-clear audio quality. There are plenty of connective inputs too, such as AUX, USB and SD. Bluetooth® is also included, allowing you to stream music from your smartphone, and safely make and receive telephone calls. SE grades add two more speakers, while the car’s touchscreen increases in size by 1.5 inches. SE trims and higher also make it possible to control a range of infotainment features via the Fabia’s multifunction steering wheel.

Five-Star Safety FIND OUT MORE

Five-Star Safety

As all good family cars should, the Fabia comes with Euro NCAP’s highest five-star crash test rating. This means that the vehicle features all the driver aids and passive safety features you would expect – and more. For example, Electronic Stability Control and Anti-lock Braking System are present and correct, ensuring that the car resists skidding in almost every scenario. Tyre Pressure Monitoring System features too, constantly analysing the air pressure of each tyre, and alerting the driver of any significant deviation. Travellers of all ages are protected by, among other things, multiple airbags – and ISOFIX child-seat fittings in the rear compartment. All occupants are encouraged to buckle up too, thanks to the inclusion of seatbelt warning lights.

BEST SMALL CAR

The Ever-Popular Škoda Fabia

The Škoda Fabia was introduced in 1999, at the dawn of a new century, which is apt, because 20th-century Škoda perhaps didn’t have the best of reputations. All of that has changed, of course, and the Fabia is at the vanguard of a Czech car-manufacturing revolution. Now in its third generation, this award-winning hatchback is as good as ever. Well-built, simple to drive, practical and economical to run, the Fabia has so much going for it. It might seem like there must be a catch but there really isn’t one, which is all the more incredible when one considers how affordable this acclaimed car is.

Attractively Practical

The smart-looking Fabia comes in S, SE, Colour Edition, SE L and Monte Carlo trim levels. All models are fitted with a number of colour-coded fixtures, such as door handles and power-adjustable and heated door mirrors, which blend in perfectly with your chosen paint finish. Exterior illumination includes rear fog lamps, which provide the kind of enhanced visibility that standard lights simply cannot offer.

Alloy wheels (starting at 15-inches) are standard with SE grades and higher, and are secured with anti-theft bolts. Estate variants come with roof rails too, providing additional ways to transport outsize items such as bikes.

If you would like your Fabia to catch the eye a little more, the Colour Edition is well worth considering. This special trim comes in contrasting black and white tones, providing the vehicle a decidedly sporty quality.

The Fuel-Saving Fabia

Entry-level S trims are typically installed with a 1.0-litre 60bhp unit, which manages up to 57.6mpg, while producing a 110g/km CO2 emission figure. Even more frugal is a 1.0-litre 95bhp engine, which returns as much as 64.2mpg and produces emissions as low as 101g/km. For a fine blend of performance and efficiency, a 1.2-litre 110bhp unit makes for a good choice. This manages up to 58.9mpg and produces 110gk/m of CO2 – and allows the car to go from 0-60mph in approximately 9.2 seconds. Whichever engine you opt for, fuel-saving Start/Stop system is included, which switches off the engine whenever it’s not needed – at traffic lights, for instance.
