A dozen pieces of silverware for ŠKODA in January

ŠKODA have been quick off the mark in the 2021 awards season, collecting no fewer than 12 accolades in January so far – and we’re only just over the halfway point!

In total, six ŠKODA models collected awards, but the standout model was undoubtedly the SUPERB, which added five awards to its already-bursting trophy cabinet, including clocking an incredible sixth successive win in What Car?’s ‘Estate Car of the Year’ category.

Let’s take a closer look at these recent awards ceremonies:

2021 What Car? Awards

ŠKODA’s most notable haul was at the 2021 What Car? Car of the Year Awards, taking home seven awards – winning two categories outright and being named ‘Best Buy’ in five new car sectors. Known as the ‘Oscars of the automotive world’, the 44th edition of these prestigious awards took place digitally due to the ongoing pandemic.

The newcomer ŠKODA OCTAVIA iV shone at the awards, being named Plug-in Hybrid of the Year 2021 after wowing the judging panel with its value and unrivalled practicality. Commenting on the win, What Car? Editor Steve Huntingford said:

“The iV's official 282.5mpg shows what’s possible if you do lots of short journeys, while CO2 emissions of 31g/km drop it into the exceptionally low 6% company car tax bracket. Crucially, though, you still get all the usual OCTAVIA Estate strengths, including a comfortable ride, loads of standard equipment and a boot that's big enough to build a barn in.”

The SUPERB, meanwhile, is no stranger to the What Car? podium, and won the Estate Car title for the sixth successive year.Huntingford commented on the award:

“The SUPERB Estate is the most complete wagon you’ll find, offering a smooth and reassuring drive, an enormous boot and the sort of rear space usually reserved for cars that are chauffeur driven. The fact that it's incredibly well priced is merely the icing on the cake.”

ŠKODA models were also named as ‘Best Buy’ winners in five categories, with the FABIA, SCALA, KAMIQ, KAROQ and SUPERB all collecting accolades – read the awards list in full at the bottom of the article.

Not content with those gongs, ŠKODA also took to the podium at three other awards ceremonies this month, including the carwow Car of the Year awards. Again, the SUPERB was the main culprit, winning ‘Best Large Hybrid Car’ for its iV version, and ‘Best Estate Car’ for, you guessed it, the Estate version!

Commenting on the latter award, carwow judges said:

“The ŠKODA Superb Estate has an absolutely massive boot, packed with clever features. And that’s the whole point of an estate car, isn’t it? The 2.0-litre diesel engine is strong, smooth, and economical, there’s loads of standard kit and the Superb feels really well built. It’s a brilliant all-rounder.”

ŠKODA also claimed two awards at the annual Company Car & Van awards, with category wins for the ŠKODA SUPERB and OCTAVIA iV. Last but not least, the ŠKODA KAROQ was crowned ‘Best Crossover’ in Company Car Today’s CCT100 Awards for 2021.
