2015 ŠKODA Fabia now on sale

Previous generations of the ŠKODA Fabia made it the Czech manufacturer’s highest selling car, so it was interesting to see the approach taken by the brand when updating the vehicle for 2015. The resulting model is on sale now at Johnsons ŠKODA, and there’s plenty to admire about this compact hatchback.

A “healthier” new shape

When commenting on the new Fabia, ŠKODA representatives have been keen to highlight its new shape, which has been described as “healthier” than that of the previous iteration. This third-generation example has reverted back to the first-generation’s dimensions, with the width growing by 90mm and 30mm shaved from its height.

“It (the new model) has the qualities of the first Fabia,” commented Senior Exterior Designer, Marko Jevtic. “We wanted its simplicity, we did not want to overload the design. The car is not fashion; people who buy it will want the car to look good in five years’ time, so we added a pinch of sharpness.”

Masses of new equipment

There’s also been a revamp inside, particularly with the Fabia’s equipment. The S trim level starts the range, and it boasts a DAB radio, Bluetooth®connectivity, and electric front windows. The higher SE adds air conditioning, front parking sensors, a MirrorLink infotainment system, and alloy wheels to the exterior. Topping the line-up is Elegance with Keyless Go, cruise control, a multifunction steering wheel, and automatic air conditioning.

Strong and safe performance

A complete refresh has occurred under the bonnet, with new TSI, TDI and MPI units offered. ŠKODA notes that each delivers improved fuel economy and a stronger ride, with the 1.0-litre three-cylinder MPI highlighted as a capable engine for city motoring. Up to 60.1mpg is possible from the new Fabia, as well as CO2 emissions of just 88g/km.

On the road the hatchback doesn’t just power forward confidently – it also works hard to protect driver and passengers. Euro NCAP awarded the new Fabia a five-star safety rating for innovative systems, including Front Assist, which warns of potential collisions, and the driver-enabled speed limiter.
